In Indien ist Saket Deutschlehrer, wenn er mit anderen Menschen zu tun hat. Wenn er nichts mit den anderen zu tun hat, ist er gerne ein vordenklicher Maler, ein nachdenklicher Musiker, ein ausdenklicher Schriftsteller… Zur Zeit leistet er in Kassel einen Freiwilligendienst.

Dictionary 1 - Die Vorhangigkeit des Lebens. The 'curtainness of life' is experienced when you feel you're missing out on all the drama, as if the play were taking place behind a closed curtain.

Dictionary 2 - Der Badezimmertanz The 'bathroom dance' is any activity which is beautiful yet potentially disastrous. For example, falling in love. (Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.)

Dictionary 3 - Die Zweizimmersprache. "Do you want to eat now?" "What? I can't hear you." "What? Did you say yes or no?" "What? Be a little louder, please!"

Dictionary 4 - Das BMWeh. When you buy a fancy car and put a dent on it on the very first day, the pain you feel is called 'BMWeh' (pronounced 'bae-em-way'). Applies to other things as well, of course.

Dictionary 5 - Die Sockenverachtung. The 'sock-negligence' means to do an everyday activity with the least amount of interest. 'They are MY socks, and they're INSIDE my shoes, who cares if they are not the intended pair?! (Note: This word has nothing to do with the smell. Please change your socks regularly! Thank you!)

Dictionary 6 - Die Nullzuckerlaune. The 'sugar-free-mood' refers to the state of mind when you don't want to be sweet or nice to anyone.

Dictionary 7 - Die Mondbrille. Sunglasses are quite common, but one rarely comes across moonglasses. An alternate word for something wonderful and uncommon even though it might be pointless or impractical.

Dictionary 8 - Das Würfelwetter. There are days when you feel the clouds, rain, wind and sun are playing a game of dice and winning a round each at the cost of your discomfort. That fluctuation is called Dice Weather.

Dictionary 9 - Die Kartoffellosigkeit. When you want to make roasted potatoes and buy everything except potatoes, only to realize it after returning home, you've fallen prey to the classic 'potatolessness' of the human condition.

Dictionary 10 - Das Gliedergartengefühl. The 'limb-garden-feeling' is very rare. Your eyes feel like flowers, your feet have become roots, and your hair seems to be dancing like little plants in the wind.

Dictionary 11 - Die Steinigkeit der Jugend. The young'uns are often tough, indifferent, lethargic, passive-aggressive, colourful - like stones. This word sums it up.

Dictionary 12 - Die Beilagenabhängigkeit When the main course fails to impress you, you rely heavily on the side dishes. Both literally and figuratively.

Dictionary 13 - Das Couchministerium. The couch you're sitting on is unbelievably comfortable. You don't want to move an inch. The only option available to you is to start giving orders to your flatmates: 'Bring me a glass of water!', 'Turn on the lights!' Before you know it, you've become the Couch Ministry.

Dictionary 14 - spiegelblind. You are 'mirrorblind' if you don't reflect on your own behaviour. A good German word for the lack of introspection.

Dictionary 15 - Tramen. The wonderful activity of dreaming in a tram. In der Tram träumen = tramen, z.B. Jeden Tag trame ich fast eine halbe Stunde.

Dictionary 16 - Die Unruheuhr. When you're restless and the ticking of a clock isn't helping, the chronometer has become an Unruheuhr.

Dictionary 17 - Die Wiesenfreundschaft. Your friendshop with people who are not mere acquaintances but also not very close to you. It's as though you were standing on two opposite ends of a beautiful meadow and yelling at each other.

Dictionary 18 - Der Gedankenmatsch. If you can't stop thinking about something you've probably stepped into the 'mud of thoughts'. A fairly common occurence.

Dictionary 19 - Die Wochenendesucht. The universal 'weekend-addiction'.

Dictionary 20 - Die Verfragung. If Verantwortung is 'respon'ibility', shouldn't Verfragung be 'question'ability?

Dictionary 21 - Die Warumhaftigkeit. The 'whyness' of situations refers to the involuntary utterance of 'Why-is-this-happening (to me)?' when confronted with them.

Dictionary 22 - Die Herzradioaugen. Eyes so pretty that you hear the radio of your heart when you look into them.

Dictionary 23 - Die Sommerlichkeit der Füße. The itch in your feet to start running, the wish to get rid of the oppressive shoes, the lovely warmth in the toes - all packed together gives you the 'summerness of feet'.

Dictionary 25 - Fledermausen. To turn something upside down is 'to bat' it, z.B. Das Erlebnis fledermauste meine ganze Welt.

Dictionary 27 - Die Himmelfilmleinwand. If you love looking at the sky, watching the passage of clouds as if it were a fantastic film, this is a word you should know: skyfilmscreen. Yes, without any hyphens.

Dictionary 28 - Das Ohrenfutter. The 'ear-feed' refers to music that's almost nourishment for your ears.

Dictionary 29 - Der Wassersturzwunsch. The intense desire to run to the nearest water body and dive into the cool water. Frequently observed during summers.

Dictionary 30 - Das Wandinteresse. When you're so bored or tired (happens in both cases) that you develop a 'wall interest'. The act of staring at randomly formed patterns on a wall.
